Patiala
'Pati'  means territory and 'Ala' derives its name from  Maharaja Ala Singh, who founded this city in the year 1753.  The city of Patiala was originally conceived as administrative headquarters for a group of 84 villages won by Maharaja Ala Singh.  Formerly it was a walled city with a kacha mud wall that does not exist today. Within a short of two centuries, Patiala recored an unparalleled achievement in field of painting and music.  When Sirhind fell in 1763, inhabitants, known as Sirhindies, migrated  in large numbers to Patiala.  Today, Patiala continues to grow both in size & prosperity.
